I haven't done too much crocheting this week. It's crunch time at work and that usually means my right hand is aching by the end of the week. But I did manage to get in 6 rounds of the "Oopsie Daisy" circular baby afghan from this book:
It's going much faster than I expected and is much easier, too. I am making it out of the white Simply Soft Caron yarn. I will put this up for my older niece until the time comes for her to have it. I don't know when that will be, but I'm hoping soon.
This week in freebies:
I thought this was funny. I don't know if kids could wear it to school because it's sort of a toy, but it's cute. I present a hand puppet scarf

I thought this was really neat, but I have a soft spot for bunnies - a pink rabbit monster ami

My younger son explained to me this is "steampunk" but it looks like crocheted cog / gears. Still impressive, could be cool of a t-shirt:

Caron has a link for a beautiful scarf

That's it for today. My darling hubby is battling some weird cold (flu?) for over a week now and I got some sort of salivary gland infection going on now. So I'm sorry for the brief post.
As usual, I receive no money / gratuities from these folks. I'd take them (especially in Caron yarn) but it's not happening.

This blog has no crochet lessons, just so you know. But it does have elements of crochet and creating. If you want to contact me, leave a message in the comment section of the blog:) Thank you.

I'm still working on Aidain's afghan. I am about 3/5 of the way finished. I can't wait to see how it turns out, it's the first time I tried this pattern and so far, I really like it.
I have a mixed bag of info for you today, so let's get started.
_Not_ a freebie but a class you can take to learn about selling your crochet designs. It's $50, it's online and it's taught by Mary Beth Temple. I know, $50 seems like a lot for a class, but consider how helpful it will be to have a professional teach you how to prepare your pattern for publication. Sounds like a good investment to me.

Hello again. My tomatoes are just beginning to ripen, the daylilies are still blooming and the roses are (surprise) still blooming. Usually by this time, the heat has caused them to blow out. And speaking of roses.....

It's been hot and humid, but what else can you expect from Baltimore in the summer? I had some plans to work on some crochet, it just didn't pan out. You know how life is, sometimes a few days attack you at once;)
I thought this was weird - and no, it's _not_ Lady Linoleum's crocheted eyeball

here's a crochet class being given online by Planet June at Crochetville. I don't know if there's a chanrge but I'm sure it's worth checking out if you can.

I know in this section of the country, it's too warm to wear a hat. But Olivia's butterfly hat is great, check out the pattern.

This seems unbelievable to me, but apparently there is a pattern for a hat for a cat. I thought it was for a pattern of a hat that looks like a cat. if you make this, I hope you have a very tolerant cat or very good health insurance
http://www.wikihow.com/Crochet-a-Cat-Hat
As usual, no special consideration is received for the mention of any of these sites. The local emergency rooms would probably prefer I don't mention the cat hat site, but your cat might be more co-operative than mine.
By the way, Happy Canada Day as well as Happy 4th of July!

Not much going on here. I finally finished the turtle to go with the baby afghan and I cut the material for the curtains. It's been slow going crochet wise because, of course, it's crunch time at work. I work late and my hands hurt and I don't croceht all week, Stupid, really, because crochet relaxes me. But that's how it goes....

Hello again. I finally finished the baby afghan and have to finish the pink and white turtle that goes with it. Actually, all I have to do is embroider a face, stuff it and sew it together, not that big a deal. But it's crunch time at work so I'm not sure if I'll finish it this week...
Let's start out with a few blogs to check out:
This is Prudence Mapstone's blog about a scumble a week
http://prudencemapstone.blogspot.com
In case you are interested in recycling your plastic bags into "plarn" - plastic yarn, here's a blog about that
http://plastiqrecreation.blogspot.com/
Not a pattern, but a cool blog...
http://thisyearsdozen.wordpress.com/
Vickie Howell has a new crochet book out and here's an interview with her
http://naughtysecretaryclub.blogspot.com/2009/05/crochet-conflab-with-vickie-howell.htm
The next three links are from Vashti Braha's blog - the first two are about crocheting with wire
http://designingvashti.blogspot.com/2009/05/free-crochet-pattern-for-mothers-day.html
http://designingvashti.blogspot.com/2009/05/using-crochet-jewelry-with-wire-free.html
and this link explains how to keep your crochet inspirations in a reasonable order. I'll write thoughts for patterns on a scrap of paper. I'll lose the scrap and find it much later, when I can't quite remember what I was trying to do. This is a much more formal way to keep track of inspiration, but my informal way isn't helping me.
http://designingvashti.blogspot.com/2009/05/how-to-journal-about-your-crochet-ideas.html
This was a tough winter in many ways. My houseplants got hit hard because it got cold and stayed cold early on. I lost a lot of cacti, unfortunately. But now I can crochet a few to brighten my work area - it's really cute.
http://amigurumipatterns.blogspot.com/2007/11/thank-you-little-cactus.html
If you're old enough, you may remember the ads for the "crazy daisy loom" on tv. You could order an afghan kit that included a flower loom. Now you may be able to pick them up at a yard sale or thrift store (or E-bay). Noreen Crone-Findlay has a tutorial on "vintage" flower looms. ("Vintage"?! I guess that makes me "vintage", too)
http://www.blisstree.com/hankeringforyarn/how-to-make-flowers-on-vintage-flower-looms/
I knew my younger niece was pregnant, but until today I didn't know if she was having a girl or a boy. I suspected she was having a boy and I was right. Now I got to figure out another boy baby afghan (I've made 2 baby boy afghans for her already)...so I'm thinking, maybe this will be the next baby afghan?
http://crochetme.com/patterns/dont-be-square-granny
or this?
http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/projects/animals.html
I don't know yet. I have to think some more about this. I've got until August, so hopefully something will impress me..
I could make a crochet bib, but that would have to be extra because I did make the other 2 boys and afghan.....
http://crochettogo.blogspot.com/2009/03/crocheted-bib.html
That's it for Freebie Monday this week. As usual, I do not get a penny from mentioning any of these people or any of these sites. I'm willing to be bribed, but who has the money for that these days;)

I was underwhelmed by the response to the contest I had last week. No one entered, no one won. So if you just are the first one to drop me a line about the Annie's Attic kit of the month (see last week's post for more info), I will snail mail it to you. Otherwise, it's onward and upward.
This isn't crocheted, but still fascinating - a knitted digestive system
http://www.strangebuttrewe.com/knitGI.htm
I've seen illusion knitting and I have seen an example or two of illusion crochet - but I thought this was the best example I've seen so far - it's a heart illusion square
http://smoothfoxlover.blogspot.com/2009/03/smoothfoxs-crochetshadow-illusion-large.html
I don't really know who or what a sack boy is, but I think he's popular with the younger set. But you may know who he is or you might just want to check him out:
http://moonscreations.blogspot.com/2009/03/sack-boy-amigurumi-pattern.html
This is from the book by Christen Haden, "Creepy Cute Crochet" - it's a mini monkey
http://www.mylifetime.com/lifestyle/home-crafts/craft-ideas/needle-arts/crochet-mini-monkey
Have you ever seen the Japanese flick "My Neighbor Turturo" ? If not, see it - it's a beautiful movie suitable for all ages. This is the makurokurosuke-soot pattern from that movie.
http://moonscreations.blogspot.com/2008/01/makurokurosuke-soot-pattern.html
I thought this was pretty cool - a crop circles square
http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96360
These are really wild ripple socks - I want to crochet these in some weird colors - a ripple afghan for your feet:
http://loveyarn1984.blogspot.com/
This is a very pretty "blue Jeans" shawl pattern.

I have to admit, I love bunnies - so here's a bunny fridgie pattern (or you could make it into a pin)
http://www.crochetmemories.com/archive/lorettaspattern.html

http://www.e-patternscentral.com/detail.html?code=EC00163&cat_id=328

And to round out this week's edition of FM, two preemie hat patterns - here's a preemie ribbed beanie
http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2007/07/my-preemie-ribbed-beanie.html
And a textured preemie hat

Sorry for the delay - I am up past my eyeballs in a head cold and surving on Claritin and Riccola - and lots and lots of hot tea...

This isn't free, either, but Big Lots is having a sale on Lion Brand's "Homespun" and "Suede" starting on Wednesday, March 4. Nope, I don't work for Big Lots but I wanted to warn you if you see me in the store sneezing and coughing, you'll probably want to back away from me as fast as you can. You don't want this stinky cold.
As usual, no compensation is received. Right now I would take some big cup of hot tea that would get rid of this cold. (I shouldn't complain, this is my first major cold of the winter).

I'm baaaack....oh, wait, I wasn't gone, was I? Today is a beautiful 65 degrees and it's supposed to be nice all this week. Next week we'll probably have a foot of snow, but we'll worry about that when it gets here....
I love the "Suncatcher Eyes" for toys and I think this "Noggins pattern" is pretty cool. I'm not hip or with it so I don't know if "Noggins" is something on tv or what....It's still cute...
http://www.suncatchereyes.net/Noggins%20Crochet%20Pattern.html
Yes, I know Valentine's Day is this week. I still have no idea what to get for my beloved. Vut this would be a cute gift for a friend - a small heart pattern

and if you want to get more involved, here's the one stitch adult crochet cardigan from Lion Brand:

I do know this is the name of a children's book - "If You Give A Pig A Pancake".....

wonder how it would translate to a bunny and a pancake;)
I think this is really sweet. At my wedding to my beloved, I crocheted a penguin groom and bride for the cake top....

and also from Suzie's Yarnie stuff, a pattern for a rectangle granny afghan:
http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2006/08/rectangle-granny-afghan-pattern_11.html
"Woman's Day" magazine has some crochet patterns online. I really miss the "old days" when a woman's magazine was about more than what diet to be on & what jeans to wear to make me look 10 years younger. I really liked "Woman's Day" articles around Christmas time about different presents a person could make. I doubt those days will come back, but this is a nice start:

This would be cute for a belt...and maybe it will make your jeans look 10 years younger;)

And now for something a bit different - an apple keychain
http://mycrochetstuff.blogspot.com/2009/02/apple-keychain-free-crochet-pattern.html
Roxycraft offers a free pattern for hearts done Roxycraft style:
http://www.roxycraft.com/crochet_hearts.htm
As usual, I get no breaks, special coinsiderations, favors, money, yarn or anything else to post these sites. I'd take a bribe, but than I'd have to pay taxes on it and that would be a mess for my accountant.

It's been _cold_ here in my neck of the woods. And my leg still hurts, boo hoo. But here you go,
I do have the free patterns this week, if you can tear yourself away from the Inaguration and football....
You have to see this - it's amazing. I think Teresa should partner with a yarn company to sell this as a kit:

Cjeck out this gallery of great crochet

http://knottsend.blogspot.com/
And there's a moose on the loose

And here's a charity even coming up - V-Day. They are accepting donations for scarves for auction at Frostburg State University, but there are other events going on - www.vday.org

As usual, I get no payola from the sites listed. That's probably a good thing because otherwise I'd have to declare it as income on my income taxes and it would bump me to a much higher bracket;)

Hello again. I'm back with your weekly dose of free crochet patterns. Here you go:
It's not _that_ cold here today, but according to the Weather Channel, it will be pretty cold (for the MD area) this weekend. So here are some crocheted polar bears that should feel right at home in my neck of the woods.
http://marthas-tatting-blog.blogspot.com/2008/12/time-out-for-crochet-polar-bear.html
And now for something completely different, a mini mokona
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/mini_mokona
Apparently you can use tiny crocheted sweaters to cover your keys so they don't scratch up your purse's contents - or as an ornament. Here are two tiny sweater patterns.
http://joy-paka-tavish-sadie-indy.blogspot.com/2009/01/homage-to-melissa-mall.html
and two:
http://crochetuncut.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=&ed=10
Of course, talking about the cold means it's time for mittens
http://www.abc-knitting-patterns.com/1008.html
Perhaps you're not in a cold area. So here's a pin cushion pattern for you.
http://www.10000greatideas.com/idea.php?idea=1228&sid=4
Another cute preemie hat pattern:
http://debscrafts55.blogspot.com/2008/04/bumpy-preemie-hat-crochet-pattern.html
And Moonglow has two coaster patterns this time - a shamrock coaster
http://www.orble.com/free-proud-to-be-irish-coaster-crochet-pattern/
and a Valentine's coaster
http://www.orble.com/free-love-me-do-coaster-crochet-pattern/
And Maggie Weldon is giving away some of her wonderful crochet patterns available as a download:
http://www.maggiescrochet.com/free-crochet-patterns-c-33.html
And in case you won't be able to make it to Washington, DC for the inauguration, you could always make your own President Obama - courtesy of Lion Brand Yarn.
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80658AD.html?noImages=
and you could probably modify the Senator McCain finger puppet to look like Vice President Biden
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80657AD.html?noImages=
As usual, I get no paybacks for listing these items. The economy is tough and it's hard for a hooker out here;)

Hello again. I think I'm a bit cranky (I _still_ have the stinky old boot) and out of sorts. Even the new issue of Interweave Press "Crochet" didn't impress me that much. Except, of course for Amy O'Neill Houck's stunning "Alpine Frost Scarf". If that doesn't impress you, well....you probably shouldn't read the rest of this because you won't be impressed by the listings here. Another reason I'm cranky is this new law that's supposed to take effect February 10, 2009. (No, it's not the HD tv thing.) I make preemie hats for the University of Maryland NICU as well as make afghans and small baby toys for the folks I know. I know child safety is _extremely_ important but I think this law may be going a bit too far. Plus no one seems to know how to intepret it. Can I still make preemie hats? Do I have to stop making baby afghans? Nobody seems to know. You may want to check this out for yourself....

Hope you had a lovely holiday and spent some quality time with your loved ones and got what you wanted....or got gift certificates so you can get what you want;)
These classes aren't free - some are $10, some are $30. But for a chance to learn taprestry and beading or find out how to design for publication, they are definitely worth checking out. And for the wannabe threadies, there's a class in filet crochet
http://www.crochetville.org/forum/classes.php
I know the _last_ thing you want to think about is crocheting for Christmas. I can't say I blame you. But look at this as an easy pattern to do in the spring or summer, being lightweight and easy to carry along. Plus you can use it as an ornament, sew a garland together or use it as featured, in a card....

Yup, I'm still using the boot to walk around in. The leg is not healing, "too much stress" according to the doctor. I should be getting an electrical stimulator for my leg this week. I have to use it for 3 hours a day, so I am hoping it is portable and requires a battery so it will be easier for me to comply. Next visit to the ortho - January 2, 2009. I'm thrilled;)
It's a bit colder in my area than the usual November temps - we even had snow flurries on Friday, so I thought I'd list some hats and scarves first.
Here's a crochet rib hat that would be suitable for males or females....
http://www.mielkesfarm.com/c_rib_ht.htm
Or how about a tapestry hat?
http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/sydney/sydney_4.html
This would also be good for males or females - a crochet beanie
http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/2008/11/simple-crochet.html
Here's something I thought was cool - a ripple scarf
http://www.woolcrafting.com/ripple-scarf-pattern.html
And how about a ripple purse to go with it?
http://www.sweaterbabe.com/monthly-free-knitting-crochet-pattern2863.htm
How about a Caron brand yarn scarf by Kim Guzman ?
http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/journey/journey_1.html
This shows you how to do the seed stitch -
http://crochet-mania.blogspot.com/2008/11/seed-stitch-crochet-scarf.html
And now for something completely different, a tessalated crochet fish motif/ That could worl out to be a cool scarf pattern (no I haven't tried it yet).
http://in-a-pear-tree.blogspot.com/2008/08/crochet-fish-motif-finally.html
So now I can bring the snow flurries into my house, without the cold - here's a snowflake garland
http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/Seasonal/WR1691+Crochet+Snowflake+Garland.htm
ANd this one must have escaped the Thanksgiving list last week - here's a pilgrim girl fridgie
http://www.crochetmemories.com/archive/november3.html
A lot of people like "Hello Kitty". When I was in Atlantic CIty a few years ago, I seen a "Hello Kitty" ring made for an adult (woman, I suppose. I can't really see a man wearing a "blingy" ring with a cat face on it, but I know nothing of fashion). So here's a really cute amigurmi "Hello Kitty" doll
http://arminas-aminals.blogspot.com/2008/03/ami-hello-kitty.html
This link is for a survey for2 free Bernat e-books. Yes,. there is no strictly crochet book although there are a few strictly knit books. And yes, you will probably get it around the first of 2009. But it is a freebie, so there you are.
http://survey2008.bernat.com/
Despite rumors to the contrary;) I am not making the big bucks off of posting these links. I'm willing to be bribed, but people are way too honest to offer me a bribe.

For those of you interested in wire crochet, this is neat. A crochet wire leaf to make into a pin or a centerpiece.

I'm still hobbling around with this boot and thinking about the big Thanksgiving feeding frenzy at my house. I've been working on preemie hats and just shipped off 10 crocheted hats to "Knit One, Save One" in Brooklyn, New York. http://vickiehowell.blogspot.com/2008/11/knit-one-save-one-with-warm-up-america.html
The other preemie hats I make continue to go to the NICU at University of Maryland Hospital.
Not a freebie, but 50% off of Roxycraft Patterns is still pretty sweet.

SInce Thanksgiving is in little over a week (in the USA) , it's time to polish the silverware - or maybe not....how about spending that time making crochet decorations for Thanksgiving? People will remember the Thanksgiving decorations longer than whether they can see their face in your silver?
How about starting with a turkey amigurimi?
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/80744AD.html
Or how about this turkey?
http://planetmfiles.com/2008/11/11/free-crochet-turkey-pattern/
You might remember making a turkey drawing from tracing your hand - or maybe your kids did? Here's a crochet example of it in crochet - a turkey hand crochet
http://cecinatrix.blogspot.com/2008/11/turkey-love.html
Or how a turkey square that needs to be tested, according to the author - check it out
http://dayna.tdgservices.com/ShowPattern.aspx?PatternID=34
Here's something really cute - a pumpkin pie fridge magnet
http://www.crochetmemories.com/archive/november2.html
Or how about a turkey fridgie...
http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/turkey.html
Here 's teddy bear pilgrim outfit and a link for a crocheted teddy bear
http://crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa112297.htm
How about a cute turkey pin to wear on your apron or coat -
http://www.crochetdoilies.com/crochet_turkey.html
Or how about a pumpkin pin
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/fiber_arts/83799
As usual, no payola came my way for listing these sites.

Here it is Monday again. I really truly mean to post days other than for Freebie Monday, but life gets in the way. Here's today's offerings:
Pattern Making has two lovely designs - one is a beautiful afghan
http://www.pattern-making.com/crochet/afghan-sea-shells/
and the second is for granny square slippers for the whole family:
http://www.pattern-making.com/crochet/granny-square-crochet-slippers/
Since it's October, pumpkins seem to be a primary decoration. Here's a filet pumpkin chart:
http://stylish-crochet.blogspot.com/2008/09/filet-crochet-pumpkin-chart-3.html
or maybe you'd prefer a few amigurumi pumpkin patterns:
http://planetmfiles.com/2008/10/04/free-crochet-pumpkin-pattern-or-two/
Or to get into the fall mood (and warm up a bit), here's a falling leaf afghan pattern:
http://www.coatsandclark.com/Crafts/Crochet/Projects/AfghansThrows/WR1039+Falling+Leaves+Afghan.htm
Red Heart has a website for the free patterns that come on the ball bands. So if you misplace that pattern (or maybe you never seen it), here's a place for you to check out:
http://www.redheart.com/patterns.html
Somebody out there has finished the Lion Brand crochet along and has a photo of her finished sampler - check it out, it's very pretty:
http://outtahere.wordpress.com/2008/10/01/its-finished/
Have you been looking for a Cthulhu pattern? Here's one for you and the wings look great.
http://cthulhucrochet.blogspot.com/2008/09/theyre-breeding-like-rabbits.html
Wormie has put her free patterns on one blog - Wormie's Pattern Place:
http://wormiespatternplace.blogspot.com/
This isn't a pattern but it may give you some ideas to do with plain t-shirts:
http://bonnindesigns.blogspot.com/2008/10/adding-zing-to-t-shirts-with-crochet.html
Here's another site that has free patterns - Sue's Crochet and Knitting patterns
http://crochetandknitting.com/patterns.htm
Noreen Crone-Findlay makes another appearance in this blog with her "Around the World" baby sweater and hat for Caron. Very cute:
http://www.caron.com/projects/ss/ss_around_world.html
As usual, I am not being financially supported by bribes or gifts by any of the sites I have mentioned. I keep waiting, but I think everybody's just too broke to do it;) - maybe when the economy takes an upturn;)
